Fashion quilting

MICHAEL Michael Kors quilted bag,
7 For All Mankind denim skirt, jacket,
Charles David boots, Guess? T-Shirt

Originally meant to provide additional warmth to cold weather garments, quilting is no longer so much about functionality but more about style. It spread out its stitches from winter coats and the occasional Chanel bag to pretty much every item of the wardrobe – tops, shoes, belts and even sunglasses.

MICHAEL Michael Kors Quilted-shoulder
 leather jacket, $425
Armani Exchange "Classic" sunglasses, $70,
CaseMate Swarovski crystal iPhone 4 & 4S case, $48
(at Nordstrom)
Guess? Canuto sneakers, $69,
Vince Camuto Flawna flat, $89.95 (at Nordstrom)

This Spring/Summer is surprisingly welcoming to the quilting trend translating it into lightweight fabrics in clothes and bright juicy hues in leather goods, shoes and other accessories. The 3D texture and cleanness of this geometrical pattern gives a feel of understated luxury and undeniable sophistication even to quite common pieces. Executed in black or ivory, quilting has become a classic statement of elegance.

New denimology.com review.

My new denimology.com review for 7 For All Mankind Skinny in Blush Lustre Denim has been posted! Hope you like it :-)

Sweet Eyelets

MANGO Swiss embroidery dress ($79),
Banana Republic shoes,
Betsey Johnson earrings, Nordstrom necklace

This season eyelets are walking the runways hand in hand with so in-trend lace taking our wardrobes to a whole new level of frill and femininity.

Catherine Malandrino cutout silk maxi skirt, $275
(at Nordstrom)
Franco Sarto Olympia espadrille sandal, $79.95,
J. Renee Camelia pump, 84.95
(at Nordstrom)

A bit country-chic, these pretty fabrics are perfect for light spring designs! Sweet, sexy and elegant (what a rare combination!) eyelets work for pretty much any style and occasion. Complex texture with a hint of skin make them an amazing material for evening dresses, while also being great for more casual day time silhouettes.

Nanette Lepore Vamos floral eyelet dress, $348
(at Nordstrom)
B44 Dressed by Bailey 44 Getaway dress, $198
(at Nordstrom)
Guess? Annie sleeveless dress, $98

With eyelets, styling is especially important. Often tending to look a bit childish and sometimes too vintage, they can be tricky to wear. The key is to balance them out with more aggressive accessories and wear them with more modern pieces. In the case of an eyelet dress go with big bold jewelry, a spunky bag or unexpected shoes; as for separates, pair it with less delicate materials such as denim or leather.

7 For All Mankind eyelet top, $169

Outer glow

7 For All Mankind Lustre jeans, Guess? shoes,
Guess? by Marciano top, Swarovski bracelet, earrings

Guess? by Marciano Circe dress, $208

With spring in full effect and summer just around the corner, heavy sequined pieces can seem a bit weighty and too intense. But by no means should we say “goodbye” to the shine, we should change the way it’s done. This season dazzling embroideries and appliqués are being traded-in for the subtle radiance of shimmery fabrics.

Guess? by Marciano silver
metallic tank, $78
MANGO Slim-fit metallic
effect dress, $79.99

Silk, organza and satin light up a wardrobe with their luminous glow and add sophisticated sheen not just to tops and dresses but also to shoes, bags and even unexpected pieces like leather jackets and trench coats (Guess? Berit trench coat, $178).

Ice L dress, Guess? boots, handbag,
Delizi Leather jacket
Guess? Berit trench coat, $178

BCBG Max Azria Harlow satin
 envelope clutch, $78
Guess? Maruti slides, $79

High-tech and coated fabrics are the most modern way to shine; they bring the feel of contemporary glamour to the clean and classic silhouette of a day dress or more surprisingly to a pair of jeans (like my 7 For All Mankind Crop Skinny in Bright Turquoise Lustre Denim, $198).

BCBG Max Azria Basia pleated color-blocked dress, $278
